The Stonetoss Trace: Short Version

The creator of the racist and antisemitic Red Panels and Stonetoss Comics was revealed to be Hans Kristian Graebener of Spring, Texas.  The work on the exposé was incredibly thorough (as can be seen in the thread and the blog post), and to supplement this revelatory information we would like to present a condensed version of the trace.

THE TRACE

How are Red Panels, Stonetoss, and Hans Graebener connected?

Red Panels used his personal hgraebener email on his Gab account, and this was found in the Gab Breach.

Hans Graebener’s name and face can be connected to the hgraebener handle via his old social media accounts. The hgraebener Skype account is pictured below.

More photos of Hans Graebener were located, showing him at a work event for a Houston-based tech company in Tokyo, Japan on May 17th, 2019.

The May 17, 2019 date  and Tokyo location were visible on the Facebook version of the post, in which Hans Graebener had been cropped out.

Stonetoss announced on Twitter that he was in Japan on the same date between May 16th and May 18th, 2019. In addition to showing his arrival at Narita International Airport near Tokyo, Japan, he mentions his “tall” height and employment as “programmer.”

Red Panels previously listed his location as Houston, which was the same location as the tech company employing Hans Graebener.

Further connecting the face to the name “Hans” from “Texas” was his appearance at the Gamergate / 8chan “birthday party” meetup in 2014. Hans was mentioned in the article published about the event.

Red Panels says he was at the “first 8chan B-day party” in one of his Reddit AMA comments.

The voices of Stonetoss and Red Panels were compared for similarity, and they matched.  Here is a short sample of Red Panels debating Carl Benjamin aka “Sargon of Akkad”.

Hans Graebener reused his login information across numerous accounts, and unfortunately for him, this helped locate additional email addresses and usernames such as Scythe-001 / Scythe_001. Using this handle on Reddit, he posted more tidbits verifying personal information and promoted both Red Panels and Stonetoss comics.

(OSINT tip: there are some tools available for viewing removed Reddit posts.)

Reddit user u/Scythe-001 transitioned from posting Red Panels comics to Stonetoss comics.

Hans Graebener did a very thorough job when he tried to scrub his identity from the internet, taking measures to remove archives of old identifying material, remove info from people finder sites, remove his own name from a family member’s obituary, and obscure his own OPSEC fails to the point that it became suspicious. Most of his past stuff was removed, hidden, or changed, but the Internet is forever.
